The Tartan Day Scotland Festival 2014 event guide was launched in the heart of Arbroath’s Fit O’ The Toon on Monday.

The guide provides information about everything that’s happening across Angus from April 5 to 13, including the Homecoming Weekend in Arbroath from the evening of April 4 until the evening of April 6.

“As part of the Homecoming 2014 celebrations, this year’s Tartan Day Scotland Festival, which celebrates Scotland and the Scots, includes a weekend of very special events in Arbroath so it was wonderful to launch the event guide in the vicinity of the town’s bustling harbour,” said Councillor Sheila Hands, Angus Council’s Economic Development spokesperson.

“This major Homecoming Scotland event is expected to attract a high number of visitors from near and far.

“The Arbroath Homecoming Weekend will shine the Homecoming spotlight on Arbroath and Angus, reminding everyone of the part our corner of Scotland has played in the history, heritage and culture of our country.”

As well as detailed information about the Homecoming Weekend in Arbroath, which will include A Taste of Angus event at Arbroath harbour, tours of Arbroath Abbey with a monk from the 1600s, a family history day and the annual re-enactment of the world-famous Declaration of Arbroath, the festival’s events guide also provides the full programme of Angus-wide events.

“With so much happening in Arbroath during this year’s Tartan Day Scotland Festival, we will be welcoming many extra visitors to our town and they will have lots of opportunities to watch Arbroath Smokies being made, taste this fabulous delicacy while it’s still hot from the smoke barrel – and buy a few pairs to take home,” said Arbroath fish merchant Stuart Scott, owner of Stuart’s Fresh Fish, one of the many Arbroath fish shops which make their own Arbroath Smokies.

The Tartan Day Scotland Festival events guide is available at leisure centres, ACCESS offices, libraries, museums and tourist attractions
