The spirit of the Commonwealth Games was in full song on Sunday as athletes, dignitaries and guests were piped into a special civic reception.

Representatives from India, New Zealand, the Isle of Man, the Maldives, Norfolk Island and Canada were joined by ambassadors from Angus Council and invited guests at the new cafe annexe at Carnoustie Leisure Centre to celebrate the imminent arrival of the Glasgow 2014 shooting events at Barry Buddon.

With local talent taking to the stage, pipers, folk music, Celtic rock and dancers there was plenty of entertainment to go along with the serious business of welcoming in the Games and it’s legacy of fraternal brotherhood.

Speaking at the ceremony Councillor Jeanette Gaul, chair of the Angus Commonwealth Games steering committee, said: “I’m delighted to give a warm Angus welcome to all of our dignitaries, athletes, coaches and visitors from all across the Commonwealth.

“We are very proud to be a host venue for the XX Commonwealth Games and I know the athletes and coaches will get a warm welcome in Angus and enjoy their stay in the county.”
