An Arbroath couple marked 60 years of wedded bliss with family and friends last week.
On Thursday Arthur and Merlin (nee Thomas) Rennie celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary and enjoyed a meal with family and friends at the Portcullis.
According to Merlin (81) she and Arthur (84) met in a dance hall, as many of their generation did. She said: “My husband was in the army in Wiltshire and we met at the usual village hop, you know it seems a long time ago now.
“He was still living up here and I was down in Wiltshire so we only really saw each other at holidays and such like. We came up to Arbroath the week after we were wed.”
On moving to Arbroath Merlin took a job with Brothock Cleaners and Arthur worked for Angus Decorators, until they both retired.
They have two sons, Michael and Martin, as well as three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Asked what the secret to their success was Merlin replied: “Everybody has their ups and downs but we’ve never had any major issues.”
