Arbroath veterans were in Oban on Sunday for the annual commemoration service of a Commando from RM Condor killed in the Falklands War. A cohort from the 45 Commando Veterans Scotland group and former Scots Guards from Arbroath and Dundee travelled to the west coast port to pay their respects to Gordon Macpherson RM, who at the age of 20 was one of 13 members of 45 Commando killed during the conflict. The service was conducted by Rev. Ken Hunter of The Congregational Church, Oban, the piper was Ross McNiven and the wreath was laid by Mr Ian Cameron, formerly of Mount Pleasant, Falkland Islands, and now living in Dundee. Close family of Marine Macpherson attended as did members of the Oban branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland.

At Marine Macpherson’s graveside are from left - Rev. Ken Hunter, David Macpherson, brother; Dorothy Macpherson, mother; Jean Macpherson, sister-in-law; while veterans look on. Picture courtesy of Wallace Ferrier.
