Film buffs in Arbroath could be sitting down to enjoy one of Hollywood’s recent releases before the end of the week.

Following on from the decision by Angus Council’s licensing board to approve a variation of licence allowing Chalmers Nightclub on Queens Drive to operate as a cinema the first public showing will take place on Thursday.

Limited entry screenings of a number of films will take place over Thursday, Friday and Saturday, which will give the staff a chance to get up to speed with the system and iron out any kinks before the official opening next month.

This was partly the result of the massive online response to the news of the planned cinema and also to cater for the Easter holidays which began on Friday.

Doors open 45 minutes prior to each screening and refreshments will be available in the on-site cafe.

The schedule is as follows: Thursday and Friday – 2.45 p.m. ‘Despicable Me’; 7.15 p.m. ‘Star Trek: Into Darkness’. Saturday – 2.45 p.m., ‘The Croods’; 7.15 p.m. ‘Gravity’.

Following the Friday screening there will be karaoke and dancing from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. and on Saturday there will be dancing until 2 a.m.

Tickets are £6.90 for adults, £4.90 for children and concessions and £16.90 for a family ticket.
