Fishy tales from Carlogie and Kingennie

Carlogie

The changeable weather is still keeping the fish down in the water at Carlogie Dam. Various flies are catching at the moment. One day lures are working best then the next is buzzers and nymphs.

Recent catch and return statistics include: D. Roy, Broughty Ferry, seven; W. Milne, Forfar, two; W. Beattie, Forfar, two; T. Costello, Dundee, seven; L. Johnston, Brechin, five; B. Thomson, Arbroath, seven; F. Ferrier, Arbroath, two; A. Stewart, Dundee, 14; S. Watson, Muirdrum, three; N. Spence, Arbroath, three; S. Buchan, Montrose, three; P. Chapman, Kirriemuir, two; L. Gall, Dundee, three; P. Chapman, Kirriemuir, two; and J. Martin, Northern Ireland, three.

Kingennie

It has been another busy week at Forbes of Kingennie with a lot of rods out catching lots of fish.

The rain over the weekend has coloured the water slightly but it’s not too bad at the moment.

The Burnside has once again been the most productive pond. Fish seem to be well spread out but the best catches have been coming from the top end of the pond.

Cats whiskers have been the favoured lure as well as blobs, bloodworms and black and green lures fished on a intermediate line.

Mr Hampton caught 10 fish and lost the same again fishing cats on Friday. Mr Simpson braved the miserable weather on Sunday and kept four fish for 10lbs 6ozs and returned a further 11, including a couple of nice blues.

The Boathouse hasn’t been too busy but those who fished there have managed to catch fish without too much hassle. Most seem to be sat around the island and have fallen to most lures.

The best fish this week went to Mr Watson with a 6lbs 13ozs rainbow caught on an apps bloodworm.

The water in the Bankside is quite clear and this has shown with a lot of fish falling to buzzers and nymphs, although lures have again taken their share. The Ferry Fly Dressers fished on Saturday and five rods kept 11 fish for 24lbs.

The Woodside has again produced good numbers of fish, with nearly every angler managing to land something. As always, powerbait and spinners are the preferred method.

Mr Hogan took his four fish in just over 45 minutes and Mr Herald took four fish for 7lbs on powerbait.
