Grab a share of community funding

The For Carnoustie charity shop announced on Monday that applications forms for local charity funding were available.

Up to £30,000 is up for grabs from community charity shop ‘For Carnoustie’ through open funding applications for individuals and groups who benefit the local community.

The charity shop is run by volunteers and raises significant sums of money to reinvest back into the community. Last year £24,000 worth of funding was given to 34 organisations.

100 per cent of all profits are returned to the town at the annual presentation night on June 12.

For Carnoustie’s chairman Melanie Coleman said: “We cover a broad base of people from dance troops to specialist organisations such as the First Carnoustie Beavers and any individuals who are in need of support whether it be for new strips, outings or equipment.”

In the last year the shop helped the Coastguard with their insurance and the Community Council with funding for Christmas lights as well as T-shirts for Kinloch Care Centre.

“Funds are raised primarily through the shop but the charity have also raised money from stalls at the gala day and a fashion show.

Melanie added: “It really is a community shop and the support has been incredible but we always need more volunteers.”

The shop currently has a wide range of help from volunteers aged 12 up to 82.

Many of the groups who have benefited from funding turned up on Monday 24 to show their support for the initiative including representatives from the Boys’ Brigade, Carnoustie Football Academy, The Carnoustie Befrienders and the Claymore Swim Team.

To be considered for funding any applicant must be able to demonstrate there is a benefit for the town and people of Carnoustie. Applications will be available from the shop For Carnoustie, 89 High Street or requested from forcarnoustie@hotmail.com
