Angus schools, community, arts, cultural and sports groups planning to mark the 2014 Commonwealth Games are celebrating the announcement of grants of up to £10,000 by the Lottery’s Celebrate Fund.
And it was announced that Monifieth, Barnhill, Carnoustie Sports Association has been awarded £9,416.
Over the course of an academic year, the cash will allow the group to host 14 extra-curricular sporting events in 10 different sports. Each event will take the form of a sporting festival with a Commonwealth theme and will allow young people to participate in sporting activities and engage with the Commonwealth Games.
Chair of the Angus Games Steering Group, Councillor Jeanette Gaul said: “I am delighted that these projects from all across the county are doing so much to capture the spirit of the forthcoming Commonwealth Games. As a proud host venue not only are we are looking forward to welcoming people from across the world to Angus, but we are working towards delivering memorable events throughout 2014 and creating a lasting legacy and unforgettable experiences for all of Angus’s residents.
“There is still time for local groups to apply for Celebrate funding if they want to hold an event before or during the 2014 Games. It would be excellent to keep this momentum building over the coming months.”
