HERO CAT UP FOR A GONG
THE AWARDS dubbed the 'Feline Oscars' to be held next month, celebrate tales of survival, bravery and heroism in the cat world.
Carnoustie's Wallace is among four cats in the Hero Cat category final and, should he win, then he will be in with a chance of winning the overall Rescue Cat title.
Five-year-old Wallace, adopted from the Cats' Protection League in Arbroath, became a hero when he alerted his owner, Maureen Gorman, and her daughter, Pamela, to a fire which had broken out in their home in January.
Maureen said that one morning she and her daughter were asleep when an agitated Wallace bolted into her room and woke her up. Believing he wanted to go outside, she got up.
However, at the bottom of the stairs, he headed into the lounge, where Maureen discovered smoke billowing out of her computer.
She managed to unplug it and put the fire out. Maureen believes Wallace must have seen it start to smoulder and headed upstairs to warn her. She thinks he was quite the hero!
Maureen does not wish to consider what could have happened if Wallace had not been around. And she thinks it is fantastic that he could win a national award for his bravery.
The ceremony is on August 1 in Pharaoh's Hospitality Suite in the London O2 Arena.
