The planning application for a huge new five star golf and spa resort at Wellbank has been received by Angus Council’s planning department.
Plans for the Wyndham Grand ‘The Angus’ hotel have been lodged with the authority and propose an 18-hole championship golf course, clubhouse, hotel with around 180 bedrooms, lodges and a masterplanning of 160 residential plots as well as associated maintenance buildings and access.
The project is being developed on behalf of the Wyndham Hotel Group by Troon-based firm MAP International Properties Ltd. at land at Shank of Omachie, Wellbank.
The resort itself will also host a bar, lounge, pool and leisure facilities, conference facilities, a ballroom, speciality dining and a spa.
When the project was first revealed last year the 18-hole championship course was due to be designed by professional British golfer Darren Clarke. A video featuring Darren Clarke talking about the proposed course is on our website now, just visit www.guideandgazette.co.uk.
In the design brief it states: “The built form of the hotel is proposed to respect the local vernacular, and from a distance it is intended to resemble the silhouettes of agricultural forms.
“The hotel has been designed to maximise the views to the south from both the hotel and the immediate vicinity to the north, as well as throughout the masterplan generally.”
It continues: “A selection of rich materials have been selected for the ground floor elevations which include local Denfind (dry) stone dyke walls, finely crafted timber panels, and large format timber framed windows, each of which provide the quality and warmth expected from a five star hotel.
“The use of local materials and their aesthetic combinations promotes both the hotel’s sustainable credentials and helps set the building comfortably within the local landscape.”
According to the developers it is their intention to produce a scale model of the proposed development in its entirety.
