Each week as part of our countdown to Scotland’s referendum on September 18 we hear from local people to find out their views and how they will be voting.

Graeme Gersok is owner and director of The Townhouse Hotel in Arbroath and is very much in the Yes camp.

He says: “I believe the right to run our own country is an ideal we should all strive for.

“Very often when in discussion with my friends I use the analogy; would you allow me (assuming I have your best intentions at heart) to run your bank account and affairs for the rest of your life?

“The answer is quite simply no you wouldn’t and the reason for that answer is you can do things better than I can.

“I believe Scots can run our own country and government better than an unrepresentative cabinet from Westminster.

“At the moment the Scottish electorate can vote in its entirety for party x and still be governed by party y from Westminster? This to me is not democratic in any way and only a yes vote can alter this biased representation.

“Can people in Scotland really wish to continue with the status quo?”

DO YOU THINK SCOTLAND WILL BE BETTER OFF ON ITS OWN?

“We have all suffered from one of the worst recessions for multiple decades.

“Google, Starbucks and others avoid paying huge tax bills through legal loop holes.

“Royal Mail is massively undersold to the tune of £1bn (tax payers lose out again) or do people forget the increase in VAT from 17.5% to 20%?

“Maybe the huge £46.5bn cost of HS2 running from Leeds to London is enough to make people think twice about the independence debate?”

Finally, what your message to voters?

“I have the faith that the greatest people in the world, in the greatest country in the world can come together to vote Yes and create a democratically diverse, fair-to-all society for us all to reside in.

“We are on the first step to becoming that country. Let us be that nation, vote Yes on September 18.
