Long distance walker Gregor Ewing and best friend, six-year-old border collie Meg arrived at Arbroath Abbey on April 30, 700 miles into their adventure of following the footsteps of Robert the Bruce.

The history buff from Falkirk will mark the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn by taking the route Robert the Bruce took from Rathlin Island in Northern Ireland back to Scotland in 1307 to start a campaign which led to his famous victory seven years later.

He said: “Many people know Bruce from Bannockburn but this journey maps his early years.”
