Former Engineers who were based at RM Condor during the 1970s and 1980s held a reunion on The Royal Marine base at Condor by Arbroath.
The engineers were formerly part of 59 Troop but were renamed ‘Condor Troop’ in the 70s. The reunion was organised by Ray Elliot and was a huge success, with friends meeting up and reminiscing of serving at Condor and times gone bye.
The engineers arrived on Friday afternoon where a buffet was laid on with compliments of The Sergeants Mess, On Saturday, a slide show and talk on the Royal Marines was presented by Captain Andy Bryce RM thereafter the veterans enjoyed a tour of the new Falklands Memorial Gardens.
In the evening, they enjoyed a fine dinner again in the Sergeants Mess followed by a disco and a prize raffle was organised raising funds for the Falklands Memorial Gardens. Guests of honour at the reunion were Major General John Moore-Bick, Major General Albert Whitley and Col David Hillard.
On Sunday, there was a service on camp conducted by The Minister of St Christopher’s Church, The Rev. Dr Mark Davidson. A wreath was laid at the parade ground Memorial Stone by Col. David Hillard and a dedication was read by John Lewis, who travelled from South Africa for the occasion. The reunion was a great success and the engineers left on Sunday at around midday.
