Minstrels divvy up £12,000 to charity

The song and dance antics of the Angus Minstrels have once again raised thousands for local charities which were distributed last week.

On Thursday at the 53rd annual general meeting of the Angus Minstrels, held in the Methodist Church hall a total of £12,000 was shared out among five worthy causes.

Ian Cargill chaired the meeting and welcomed the good turnout from the company, and treasurer Garry Mitchell gave a comprehensive financial report and was able to give a breakdown of the charitable donations.

The Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) was presented with the lion’s share of £8,000, the Arbroath branch of the RNLI received £1,500, the CAFE Project was awarded £1,000, another £1,000 went to Marie Curie Nurses and £500 to Tayside Deaf Children’s Society.

After receiving their cheques the various charity representatives gave a short resume of their organisations and how the money was to be used.

The 2014 run of the Angus Minstrels’ show has been confirmed as Saturday, November 8, to Saturday, November 15, Sunday inclusive.

Ticket prices will be £12, with a special Sunday discount for those under 16 to see the show for £8. Tickets will go on sale at the Webster Memorial Theatre box office from August 26.

Producer and choreographer for the 2014 show will be Edwina Barraclough, with James Hutcheson as assistant producer and Paul Clancy as musical director.

The committee for 2014/15 was elected as follows: director - Joan Mitchell; treasurer - Garry Mitchell; committee members - Ian Cargill, James Hutcheson, Garry Mitchell, Robert Seaton, Jim Ramsay, Jamie Watson, Shona Kemp, Eileen Craig, Joan Mitchell and Evelyn Fordyce.

The vote of thanks was given by Evelyn Fordyce and the meeting was followed by light refreshments.
