MP gives backing to Cafe Profect

David Mundell, Conservative MP for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale, and Under Secretary of State for Scotland, visited the CAFE Project in Arbroath.

The Cafe Project is situated aims to provide a safe environment for young people to attend and hosts a range of activities and clubs.

And Mr Mundell even tested his skills on the pool tables before he left, saying he was very impressed by the project as a whole, praising the staff and volunteers.

He said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to see the Cafe Project for myself.

“It’s a great example of providing facilities for young people in the community and the fact that it has done so for the last 18 years shows just how successful it has been.

“It’s very important that young people have somewhere informal to go to meet up and the Cafe provides an excellent base for that. I was very interested to hear about the Darts Academy and pleased to have a chance to test my skills on the pool tables!

“Of course, it’s not just the building that’s important, the staff and volunteers make the real difference. The Cafe provides an excellent example to other communities of can be achieved and is something Arbroath can be very proud of.

Derek Wann, Angus Conservative candidate for the 2015 UK election, and a director at the CAFE, added: “Once again it is a pleasure to have a politician visit our CAFE in Arbroath, it just goes to show how the whole project is respected Scotland wide.

“Over the last year it has been a hard time for the CAFE, however, we have battled through and managed to raise adequate funds for the next year.

“We would like to thank the people and business in Arbroath who contributed to our fund raising and all the charitable foundations who have kindly supported us. David Mundell is the most recent politician to visit our premises and was wholly supportive of our cause.”
