Council homes in the Barnhill and Forthill areas of Broughty Ferry could be in line for upgrades if a £8 million plan is approved next week.

Dundee City Council is set to meet to discuss the plans on Monday and if approved, could see new kitchens, bathrooms and heating systems bring them a step closer to meeting the Scottish Housing Quality Standard.

Dundee City Council’s depute convenor of housing and Ferry Ward councillor Kevin Cordell said: “We have now brought more than 81 per cent of ourhousing stock up to the required standard ahead of the 2015 deadline.

“This means that council house tenants in Dundee have homes that are warm, fuel efficient and meet 21st century standards, with more to come when this £7.9 million programme of works goes ahead.

“The project also keeps local people in jobs with the work going to Dundee City Council’s environment department construction service and our long-term partners at McGill Electrical.”
