Return deadline looming

HM REVENUE and Customs are reminding people they must send in their tax return online if they want to avoid a penalty.

The deadline for paper returns was last Wednesday and any received after this will result in a £100 penalty – even if there is no tax to pay or the tax due is paid on time.

The longer the delay, the more you’ll have to pay.

Your online tax return must reach HM Revenue and Customs by January 31, 2013.

For general help and advice on completing a return, visit www.hmrc.gov.uk/sa or call the Self Assessment helpline on 0845 9000 444.
