Carnoustie is set to stage the Senior Open Championship in 2016, the R&A have announced.
It is the second time the Championship Course has hosted the tournament with it last coming to Carnoustie in 2010, when Germany’s Bernhard Langer was victorious.
It will be the 30th time the competition is held when it comes to Carnoustie in 2016, and will take place from July 21 to 24.
The R&A made the announcement about the host venues yesterday (Monday) and also revealed the 2015 tournament would be taking place at Sunningdale.
Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, executive director of championships, at The R&A said: “After a hugely successful Senior Open at Royal Birkdale we are very much looking forward to taking the Championship to two outstanding venues in Sunningdale in 2015 and Carnoustie in 2016.
“Both are iconic courses and have successfully staged The Senior Open Championship once before, so the players will look forward to returning to them.”
