For Carnoustie charity shop have given the gift of skating to Carnoustie with a £4,000 donation.
“The donation from For Carnoustie gives us the final total for the skatepark. We’ve already raised £186,000 and receiving £4,000 gave us the last bit to take us over the finish line,” said Carnoustie Skatepark Group Community member, Carine Soutar.
“It was a complete surprise on the night, an extremely delightful surprise.”
Unaware that such a considerable donation was in the pipeline, the skatepark group still have fund raising initiatives in place.
“As we still have projects on the go, fingers crossed and depending on the amounts raised, it will mean we are able to put floodlighting in. Which is just the icing on the cake.”
Plans for the skatepark are complete and a contract has been awarded to Ian Young to begin the work. He hopes to start later this year, about September time, depending on the completion of a skatepark he is currently working on.
Mrs Soutar said: “So everything is just about done and now the kids can get excited about using it for about the next 50 years or so!
“We would like to thank For Carnoustie, who do a fabulous job and also the local people, who we can’t thank enough for their support.”
The For Carnoustie ceremony held in the Carnoustie Hotel last Thursday, awarded over 40 local organisations with donations.
One of the ongoing skatepark initiatives is a raffle for a money-can’t-buy prize of two tickets to the Ryder Cup practice day on September 15 with full hospitality. Contact Carine Soutar on 07869288405 to purchase raffle tickets.
