Our area was buzzing as Her Majesty The Queen’s Baton Relay made its way through Angus to mark the rapidly approaching Commonwealth Games.

There were good turnouts at each stage of the event as it made its way from Monifieth, through Carnoustie, Easthaven and into Arbroath before heading into the rest of the county.

Along the way it honoured the achievements of some of Angus’ residents and showcased some of the area’s highlights, such as Arbroath Abbey, on a world stage.

The day’s celebrations ended with a special festival in Montrose, Angus Council leader Iain Gaul gave a speech before the baton passed into Aberdeenshire.

He said: “It’s been a day of celebration and community spirit. A day where we’ve had the chance to honour and cheer our local baton-bearers – all of whom have been selected for the superb contribution they make to Angus life.

“Today has been a day to remember. You are all now part of one of the longest relays ever seen. You are part of a global celebration involving over a third of the world’s population!

“Angus is honoured to have been part of today’s baton relay and we are proud to be a venue for the 20th Commonwealth Games.”
