A group of big-hearted slimmers from Arbroath are celebrating losing 799lb between them and raising £400 as part of a sponsored slim for CHAS (Rachel House).
Members of the Arbroath Slimming World group were taking part in a national campaign called ‘Slim for Good’ running across all 11,000 Slimming World groups in the UK and Ireland.
The aim of the six-week drive was to help people to lose weight and improve their health while raising money for a good cause in the area.
The members of the Arbroath group voted for the worthy charity they wanted to support throughout the campaign and chose CHAS (Rachel House) because it is a cause close to one of the member’s Debbie Begg’s heart as she is a regular visitor to the hospice with her family
Dawn Gordon, who runs the group, says the ‘Slim for Good’ campaign gave members an added incentive to achieve their weight-loss dreams.
“Supporting a worthwhile cause like CHAS (Rachel House) has given everyone a special focus and real commitment to their weight-loss goals,” said Dawn.
“For many members being sponsored has been a great way to kick-start their weight loss and for others it’s been a boost to help them stay on track. We pride ourselves on the care and support we give each other to lose weight – we’re known as the club with the big heart –so when members started talking about raising money for CHAS (Rachel House) and what we could all do together, there really was no stopping us.”
Members of the Arbroath Slimming World group have also joined together to spring clean their wardrobes and donate their clothes to Cancer Research UK in support of the national fundraising campaign ‘The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw’. Each single bag collected could raise around £25 for the charity.
Anyone who wants to join the Arbroath Slimming World group is welcome every Wednesday at 3.30, 5.30 and 7.30 p.m. in the Green Street Hall or call Dawn on 0792 362 7852.
