The Arbroath RNLI responded to a call at 14.08 p.m on April 21 following reports that a man was in distress in the water.

The man was believed to have fallen into the water and managed to get to shore just north of the eponymous red sandstone stack, the Deil’s Heid.

An RNLI spokesperson said: “Both boats were launched and we put ashore one of the crew from the inshore boat to assist the man.”

The man involved in the incident was not reported to be seriously injured but had sustained some cuts and bruises.

The Coastguard and Police were also in attendance.

A decision was made to transport the man up the rocks and overland and not back with the crew in the lifeboats.

The RNLI were returned to station.

The man has not been formally identified and it is not yet known how he came to be in the water.
