Carnoustie received a welcome business boost this week when Yorkshire Building Society opened an agency in the town.
The UK’s second largest building society opened for business at Walker Dunnett & Co, on High Street, on Tuesday.
Walker Dunnett & Co, which has been in the town for 20 years, is now able to offer customers access to the Yorkshire’s award winning range of savings products.
“We are really looking forward to working with Yorkshire Building Society,” said Ian Barr, financial services manager at Walker Dunnett.
“We are proud of our history in the local area, and are keen to offer our customers competitive products and the best service at all times.”
To celebrate the opening, the agency is inviting members of the public to an open day next Friday (August 23), from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., for a ‘taste of Yorkshire’. Agency colleagues will serve guests with Yorkshire tea and biscuits and there will be giveaways throughout the day.
Angus Provost Helen Oswald told the Guide & Gazette: “I was really pleased that the Yorkshire Building Society had given Walker Dunnett (who by the way, celebrate 20 years in Carnoustie) such a vote of confidence.
“I am sure the people in town will appreciate having such a facility and it will add to Walker Dunnett’s portfolio of sevices and offer employment opportunities in this well established High Street business.”
The Yorkshire is the second largest building society in the UK. It merged with Barnsley Building Society in 2008, Chelsea Building Society in 2010, Norwich & Peterborough Building Society in 2011 and also acquired the Egg mortgage and savings book and the Egg brand that same year.
It has 230 branches, 96 agencies and assets of approximately £33 billion. It employs around 4,100 staff and has 3.5 million customers.
