Two EMPLOYEES from Angus Council’s social work department have been recognised for their commitment to education and training in the workplace.

Barrie Wilson and Isobel Anderson both lifted prestigious Scottish Qualifications Authority Star Awards in recognition of their efforts.

Barrie, a workplace assessor and internal verifier from Arbroath, lifted the accolade for SQA Lifelong Learning Candidate of the Year, while Isobel, an assessment centre manager from Carnoustie, scooped the award for SQA Champion.

Barrie’s career began as a volunteer with the St Aidan’s project in Dundee.

He then trained as a skills officer with the then Tayside Regional Council, working with adults with learning difficulties.

Since then Barrie has joined the training section within the council’s social work department gaining a number of essential qualifications including his SQA external verifiers certificate.

Meanwhile for over 16 years, Isobel has championed SQA qualifications in the workplace.

After completing her own SVQ and seeing how the vocation qualifications benefitted council staff and the people they were working with, Isobel started supported her colleagues through their studies.
