A BUDDING Broughty Ferry actor failed to make the final of ‘Superstar’, a talent show screened on ITV the aim of which was to find a new lead for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’.
Simon Gordon (21), pictured above, initially claimed his place after a successful audition in Glasgow and also got through the first round. However, he failed to progress in Saturday’s sing off.
Simon, who is currently completing a law degree at Dundee University, is a former pupil of Monifieth High School. He will be no stranger to the stage having been a member of the Tread the Boards youth music theatre group in Broughty Ferry from an early age.
He also performs in a wedding band called Loose Change.
Show in a Week
‘SHOW in A Week’, the week long musical theatre summer school which made a successful debut last year, is returning later this month.
The school, which will reach its climax with two performances at the Webster Theatre on Saturday, July 28, is being staged by the Carnoustie-based Angus Centre for Performing Arts.
It is open to youngsters aged from 12 to 20 years with rehearsals, which take place at the Terrace Road studio of Angus Centre for Performing Arts, getting under way on Monday (July 23).
Places for ‘Show in a Week’ are still available. Further details can be obtained from principal Fiona Forbes on 01241 853788.
This year’s show, written by Caroline Dey, one of the group’s drama teachers, is based on the music of the 1990s.
Tickets, costing £9 and concessions £7 for both Saturday performances which start at 2.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m., can be purchased from the Webster Theatre.
