Local talent taking part in ‘Annie’

A GROUP of local girls will take part in the national tour of ‘Annie’ when it is presented at the Caird Hall, Dundee, from March 22 to 26.

The artistic directors of Tread the Boards Youth Music Theatre based in Broughty Ferry, Brian and Agnes Boardman, were asked five weeks ago if they could choose youngsters who would play alongside Su Pollard who appears as Miss Hannigan.

Mr Boardman immediately set about arranging auditions to cast the orphans, four of whom have speaking roles.

He explained: “The reason for the haste in arranging auditions was because the show was running at Edinburgh Playhouse the following week. With the orphans cast, it allowed the dance captain, Caroline Andrew, to come through to Dundee on the Thursday and Friday of that week to rehearse the girls we had chosen.

“They did extremely well and Caroline was most impressed with them. It’s now up to us to make sure they’re well-rehearsed for their first performance.”

Whilst rehearsing for the Caird Hall performances of ‘Annie’, Tread the Boards has also been busy in rehearsals for its forthcoming production of ‘High School Musical’ in the Whitehall Theatre, Dundee, from April 19 to 23.
