CARNOUSTIE shoppers are in for a festive treat this year as discount flyers for local businesses begin appearing in letter boxes.
The discount flyer scheme is the brainchild of the Carnoustie Business Association (CBA) and derives from the successful shopping survey carried out earlier this year.
Peter Burke, CBA chair, explained: “Following several suggestions from the Carnoustie Business Association shopping survey in the late summer, the CBA is delighted to offer all the residents of the burgh an early New Year’s present.
“You should already have received a multiple discount leaflet through your letter box, delivered by the Boys’ Brigade. Inside you’ll find a range of discounts available on your High Street in return for your loyalty.
“These are new discounts in addition to those already offered in current loyalty schemes by a number of different retailers in the town.”
This represents a pilot scheme to test the water for a Carnoustie-wide loyalty scheme to encourage locals to shop more in the town.
Mr Burke continued: “If it is successful then the CBA will be encouraging even more retailers to take part in a more permanent scheme later in 2012.
“So the answer is in your hands; the more you spend on the High Street, the more you’ll be able to save!”
Councillor Brian Boyd added: “It’s great to see a revival of our High Street in 2011 but good to see businesses are not resting on their laurels and are trying new initiatives to keep it thriving in 2012.
“I praise the CBA for working on this new initiative which I’m confident will work for High Street shops.”
The last empty shop front in Carnoustie has been turned into an information point (see picture) and is due for refurbishment early in 2012 to make it suitable for commercial use.
Anyone who has not received the flyer by December 28 should contact the Fobel Shop with their details.
