A MONIFIETH theatre company is a step closer this week to taking curtain calls on their very own stage.
Monifieth Amateur Dramatics presented the Monifieth branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland with a cheque for £3,500 toward the cost of purchasing the former branch building.
The group has raised £35,000 so far through a series of craft fairs, quiz nights, donations and other fund-raisers, such as a recent sponsored abseil.
Much of the proceeds from the plays staged throughout the year by the group are also put into the fund.
However, with £40,000 still needing to be found, the group is looking for a major sponsor for their cause and welcome donations of any size.
The next production will be ‘Dick Whittington’ which will open for two weekends from Friday, December 2.
MAD chairman Bruce Mackie said: “Hopefully our pantomime this year will be another great success and we’ll be able to present another cheque to the Royal British Legion Scotland.
“We have a fairly hectic calendar next year and we hope it’s another successful season.
“We do well as a society and hope to build on our success from last year and previous years.”
Tickets are available from Troup Pharmacy, Monifieth and Yorkshire Building Society, Broughty Ferry.
