TAYSIDE Police are appealing to the public to make life difficult for opportunist thieves this festive season.
After Christmas Day, avoid advertising the fact there are new goods in the house by leaving empty boxes and packaging lying outside – dispose of it carefully.
Anyone going out, particularly at this time of the year when it gets dark early, should leave a light on or fit timer switches to lamps, and perhaps leave the television on or a radio playing. Curtains or blinds should be drawn before leaving, and all doors and windows locked. Additional locks can be fitted to vulnerable windows and external lighting acts as a deterrent. House alarms should also be set.
