Arbroath swimmer Maria Orsi has returned from the Special Olympics in Belgium with quite a haul of medals.
The 26-year-old came home with a gold, silver and bronze medal from the Antwerp Games after competing against athletes from all over the world.
Maria won a bronze in the four x 25 metre freestyle relay; silver in the 50 metre freestyle and topped it off with a gold in the 25 metre butterfly.
Maria is something of a veteran when it comes to swimming competitively and most recently represented Tayside at the Special Olympics GB in Bath last year.
Speaking to the Arbroath Herald on Tuesday Maria said: “It was a good achievement and I would like to thank my coach Janet Warrington and all my friends and family for their support.”
Maria was one of 50 athletes chosen to represent GB Team at the 2014 Special Olympics European Summer Games whichw as held in the Belgian city of Antwerp.
GB Team won a grand total of 100 medals during the competition, with Maria’s medals adding to the tally of 41 golds, 34 silvers and 28 bronze medals. For more information on the Special Olympics visit www.specialolympics.org
