A former Carnoustie man is putting it all on the line this weekend when he steps into the ring for a cause close to his heart.

Tomorrow night (Saturday) Mike Lawson will be taking part in the Ultimate White Collar Boxing event at the Thistle Hotel Bristol and is asking his supporters to sponsor him to raise funds for the Blake McMillan Trust.

Mike, Head of School at Gloucestershire College, is a keen amateur boxer and is no stranger to the canvas, but this time he is putting all that blood, sweat and tears towards a good cause.

Youngster Blake suffers from MECP2 Duplication Syndrome, a rare and progressive neurological disorder which can cause severe issues with physical and mental development, autism, epilepsy, increased risk of deadly respiratory infection among many other problems.

Blake’s parents set up the Blake McMillan Trust which raises money for research into MECP2 Duplication. You can read more about the campaign HERE

Mike’s Aunt Alison is married to Blake’s grandfather John Hovell, and the family connection has made Mike acutely aware of Blake’s condition.

Mike said: “The fight on Saturday is nowhere near the fight fought by Blake and his family everyday. The three rounds fought on the night will be for Blake. I’ll be digging deep, and I expect the public to dig deep and donate.”

Acting as Mike’s cornerman is another well-known Carnoustie face, Iain Fraser, who will be there to support Mike as he faces Ryan Blair.
