Monifieth’s charrette officially launched yesterday (Thursday), with another two packed days of events to follow at the start of next week.
Dubbed ‘Talk Monifieth’, the design charrette is an intensive consultation and design programme that looks to draw on local ideas to shape the town centre’s future.
Along with the launch event locals were able to take part in a design studio-drop in from 11am to 6pm, and a ‘Fly a Kite’/‘Float Your Boat’ Ideas Workshops.
The ‘Talk Monifieth’ team will be based at the design studio at 47 High Street and next door in the Crown Inn Function Suite.
As well as a place to develop and work on ideas and options, the High Street base will serve as a drop-in centre.
The next series of events takes place on Tuesday, June 7. Locals can drop in to the studio between 11am and 6pm. There will be a traffic walk and talk leaving the studio at 1pm to look at transport and access and a Show and Tell workshop from 7 to 9pm at the Crown Inn, highlighting the story so far.
On Wednesday, June 8, there will be a business breakfast between 8 and 9.30am at the design studio and aimed at local business people, land/building owners and developers. There will be an invitation only public agencies workshop at the studio during the morning; a Futurewalk walk and talk tour from 2pm; and, weather permitting, an on-street gazebo from 2 until 5pm.
A Work-in-progress pin-up presentation will be held in the Crown Inn between 7 and 9pm, which will also include the premiere of the ‘Talk Monifieth’ film.
The film was developed during pre-charrette visits by WAVEparticle on May 19 and 24. They were joined by filmmaker Basharat Khan, who captured interviews with a diverse range of people, and most importantly, recorded their views and experiences of Monifieth.
The final event for the charrette takes place on Wednesday, June 22. It will include an ‘Emerging Ideas Exhibition’ from 1pm at the design studio, which will allow locals the change to discuss the emerging ideas and action plans for Monifieth town centre. The day ends with a report back presentation from 7 to 9pm at the Crown Inn.
