Maximising Monifieth’s opportunities will be the driving ambition of the latest design charrette to be held in Angus.
Next month, Talk Monifieth will harvest the thoughts, ideas and opinions of local residents and business people to identify short, medium and long term development opportunities in the town centre.
High on the agenda will be local new housing development; the provision of new and improved community and sports facilities; links between the town and its seafront; assisting and developing new business.
Charrettes – consultation and design programmes – have already taken place in Arbroath, Brechin, Carnoustie, Forfar and Montrose.
All of the events have prompted “excellent” responses from their communities through creative conversations, activities and events.
The Monifieth charrette, developed by Angus Council, will provide a sharp focus through which to look at existing and possible future services, including housing, retail, leisure and tourism.
The design team that is facilitating the public’s input to Talk Monifieth has expertise in town planning, architecture, property development and community regeneration.
Included in their aims is to develop a shared long-term vision and strategy for Monifieth town centre and build on the town’s assets and strengths, as well as the challenges and opportunities it faces and empower the community to help deliver change.
Day one of the charrette is on Thursday, June 2, with days two and three the following week on Tuesday, June 7 and Wednesday, June 8.
The event will be based at the Crown Inn function suite and the adjacent property at 47 High Street, Monifieth.
A pre-charrette animation has also been organised for Thursday, May 19 and Tuesday, May 25 and a full programme of events will be released shortly.
Once all the community feedback, information and aspirations have been gathered, the design team will establish an action plan, for public bodies, businesses and community organisations to take ownership of.
These will be highlighted in a presentation back at the Crown Inn function suite on Wednesday, June 22.
