At Monifieth Probus Club’s meeting on Tuesday, (December 1) Christine Landsburgh talked about Angus Independent Advocacy, the small Arbroath-based voluntary organisation in which she is Citizen Advocacy Development Worker, and the important part played in its work throughout Angus by volunteers who become Citizen Advocates.
Once trained these Advocates work in partnership on a one-to-one basis to encourage and support older people who, for a wide variety of reasons, have become isolated or are finding it difficult to have their voices heard. Sometimes the problems to be tackled and the partnership efforts to overcome them are short-term but in other cases the partners build a lasting relationship which both parties value or the individuals who initially needed help go on to have a valued presence in their community. Club president Ian Lee chaired the meeting and David Sword proposed the vote of thanks and handed over the club’s customary contribution to the speaker’s chosen good cause. The programme at the club’s next meeting, in David Lloyd Leisure, Ethiebeaton Park, at 10am on Tuesday, December 15, will have a seasonal theme.
