The live music keeps on coming at Montrose Folk Club, with another great guest lined up for Thursday, September 26.

The guest on this occasion is Tim Edey who will perform at the club which meets in the Links Hotel, Montrose.

For the last few meetings the club has changed its fortnightly meeting to a Thursday.

Originally, Tim Edey had been booked to appear at Montrose Folk Club on Tuesday, January 22 of this year.

Unfortunately, that gig required to be cancelled at the last minute as a result of Tim running his car off the road between Auchterarder and Perth in a snowstorm whilst en-route to Montrose.

The club hopes there will be no such problems in September!

This will be a first appearance in Montrose by award-winning multi-instrumentalist Tim, who is currently on the crest of a wave of success in the folk music world.

He won not just one but two categories at the 2012 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. He was chosen as Musician of the Year and also won the Best Duo Award in respect of his duo with Irish harmonica wizard Brendan Power.

Tim grew up in Broadstairs, Kent, but inherited his love of Irish and Scottish music from his mother, who was born in Cork.

Having played in the past as a member of the dynamic Scottish band, Session A9, led by Charlie McKerron of Capercaillie, Tim moved last year to reside permanently in deepest Perthshire.

The incredible width of the style and choice of music now played by Tim displays the range of his musical influences. He describes himself as a “Celtic Jazzer” and loves all sorts of music, particularly those with swing, such as gypsy jazz and Orkney and Shetland tunes.

Tim is outrageously talented and a musical wizard on an incredible range of instruments, including guitar, mandolin, piano, accordion and melodeon.

He currently plays more than 10 instruments to a high-class professional standard. He is also a fine singer of contemporary and traditional material.

The reputation of Tim Edey in the folk music world is such that he has a list of stellar musicians as long as your arm queuing to play with him.

In addition to the award-winning duo with Brendan Power, Tim regularly plays in a duo with another legendary Irishman, Seamus Begley.

He also plays with his own band, The Collective, played on the most recent album, released by Christy Moore, and with many other artists, such as Sharon Shannon and Altan.

In 2012, he made a lengthy tour of Europe and the USA with none other than The Chieftans.

Everyone is welcome at Montrose Folk Club next Thursday for what is certain to be another outstanding concert.

The doors at The Links Hotel will be open at 7.30 p.m. with Tim on stage at 8 p.m.

Montrose Folk Club meets regularly in the Links Hotel, Montrose.

The club is a great place to enjoy listening to folk music and sometimes there are opportunities to take part as a guest. It’s a relaxed, friendly environment and normally there is a chance to chat to the artists.

You don’t have to be a member to attend. The programme is aimed at bringing you a wide spectrum of popular and acoustic music. The foundation is mainstream folk music, both traditional and contemporary, and it also stages blues performers, the annual bluegrass music concert in August, new country music and contemporary songwriters.
