MP wants better terms for fishermen

The UK Government has been accused of failing to address problems facing the Scottish fishing industry by Angus MP Mike Weir.

Following a statement on the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) by under-secretary of state for environment, food and rural affairs Richard Benyon, Mr Weir believes there are other challenges facing Scots fishermen than the CFP and that the UK government is failing to act.

He said: “Whilst the agreement in Brussels is welcome, the fishing industry still faces problems such as the cost of quota and fuel.

“The market conditions have continued to be poor in recent months.”
