The MSP for Dundee City East will be in Broughty Ferry this weekend to take part in the town’s annual Gala celebrations.

Shona Robison MSP, Cabinet Secretary of Health, Wellbeing and Sport, has been invited by the Broughty Ferry Traders Association to the Gala Day at Castle Green on Sunday.

The MSP will be there as part of the Scottish Parliament Cross Party Group on Town Centres’ ‘Connecting MSPs with Scotland’s Towns’ initiative which aims to promote and support Scottish towns.

Ms Robison said: “I’m looking forward to playing an official role at this year’s Gala Fete. It’s always been a fun day out for our family – but it represents so much more in a town like Broughty Ferry. It’s a rare and welcome chance for all members of the community to come together to celebrate the successes of our lively wee town and to raise funds for the various charities who benefit from the day.

‘‘I’m delighted to support all the people who come together to make Broughty Ferry such a spirited place and will continue to make sure that their best interests are represented at the National level.”

Steve James, chair of the Broughty Ferry Traders Association, added: “Gala Day is always a wonderful event for our community and it’s often forgotten, amongst all the fun and frivolity, that the day is run entirely by volunteers who spend literally months getting everything organised.

‘‘Shona’s presence this year demonstrates that our work, and the work of all our town’s voluntary organisations, is just the tip of the iceberg – it’s this kind of activity that helps Broughty Ferry thrive all year round.”

Broughty Ferry Gala Week runs until Sunday, July 12, with a host of activities on offer throughout. You can read more about what is on offer on Page 30 or visit
