An Arbroath-based charity and social enterprise project is looking to recruit new directors to continue their record performance levels.

The Furniture Recycling Project Angus (FRPA) hopes to recruit enterprise-minded individuals to replace retiring directors.

Andrew Dawson, chair of FRPA said: “After 10 years in operation we need more directors. Long-standing members of the board have begun to retire.

“We need new people with experience of business and/or the voluntary sector to give a few hours each month to oversee and support the growing work of our manager and staff.

“This is a great opportunity to use your skills to serve the Angus community, help the environment and direct a successful organisation.”

FRPA collects good quality, unwanted furniture free, and passes it on to households in need. It increased its collections by 40 per cent in the year up to March and equalled its all-time record of £80,000 in sales from its Arbroath showrooms.

It also diverted 142 tonnes of furniture and white goods from landfill, an increase of 20 per cent.

It also saw rapid growth in its removals business, and launched a carpet-cleaning service, using staff accredited by the National Carpet Cleaning Association.

Mr Dawson added: “This has been another very good year. We are delighted to be able to supply these services, for which there is clearly a growing demand in Angus.

“We are also pleased that we have been able to continue our work helping young unemployed people to gain work experience through Community Jobs Scotland.

“We have also begun working with the new Scottish Welfare Fund, supplying furniture to households in difficulty.”

FRPA is offering a tour of its Wardmill Road premises to interested parties during afternoons, early evenings and Saturday mornings.

It also has an information pack about its services and recent achievements available on application.
