IT HAS been a pretty good week as far as Gowfers’ gaffer Alan McSkimming is concerned, writes Johnston Ralston.
Not only did his side win for the first ever time against well-placed side Camelon Juniors on Saturday, but this week Alan was confirmed as permanent manager of Carnoustie Panmure Junior Football Club.
Alan and player / assistant manager Stuart Ferguson will now be able to concentrate on the future with a two-year contract safely squared away.
Alan said: “I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to manage such a big club for my first job.
“What we might lack in experience we hope we can make up for in drive and passion.
“Both myself and Stuart are delighted that David Laing and the committee have such confidence in us to give us the opportunity to go and basically install our management style on the club.”
The Gowfers have had a decent run since Alan and Stuart took over management duties following the departure of Ian Gilzean and assistant Graeme Christie.
Speaking on Wednesday Alan said: “I think the reaction to our interim management team has been excellent from the players and when we announce it to the players tonight I think the boys will play with a bit more freedom and be able to relax on the pitch a bit more because they don’t have to worry about who is coming in.
“The level of performance we’ve been getting from them has been excellent and the players have responded by doing everything we’ve asked them to do.
“I think the players will take something very positive from this.”
