Obituary: Avril Hood

AVRIL Hood, a popular former teacher of art at Carnoustie High School has died at the age of 82.

Mrs Hood, wife of Danny and mother of Colin, Alasdair and Graeme, passed away peacefully at their home in Braehead Drive, Carnoustie, on Wednesday.

She attended the Glasgow School of Art at Moray House College. She was an enthusiastic member of the Carnosutie Camera Club and the Dundee Photographic Society.

Mrs Hood gained her Associateship of the Royal Photographic Society some time ago and was awarded the gold medal of the Scottish Photographic Federation.

On Monday Mr and Mrs Hood celebrated 59 years of marriage, and had lived in Carnoustie since 1970.

Mrs Hood taught at Carnoustie High School from 1970 until 1985, and was involved in many of the early Further Education courses piloted at the school.

Their three sons also attended Carnoustie High School and they have four grandchildren.

Mr Hood said: “Avril was a very well liked teacher. I recently met a former pupil and she said to me ‘Mrs Hood was a wonderful teacher, always smiling and never in a bad mood.”

There will be a memorial gathering in the Carnoustie Golf Hotel on Monday, (October 3) between 4 and 6 p.m.
