Olive’s plea to opera lovers

Olive Duncan in her heyday.

A former opera singer from Kirriemuir is calling on Angus opera lovers to step forward and join her in appreciating the art.

Olive Duncan, a talented soprano, sang with the BBC, the English National Opera, Wexford Opera, Czech National Opera and was even invited to sing at Glyndebourne during an illustrious career spanning many years.

After finally giving up singing, Olive began a second career as an art historian at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and spent many years lecturing at the world renowned V & A Design Museum in London. She was made an Honorary Professor of Western Art History by the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics when she was headhunted to lecture there.

She now lives in happy retirement near Kirriemuir, but her passion for opera remains as strong as ever. Six years ago she joined with friends to set up the Angus Opera Group which meets once a month and has a varied programme of speakers, recorded broadcasts of operas and trips to see performances. Anyone interested in joining the group is asked to contact r.sspence987@btinternet.com or call 01356 648 754.
