THE MAN who made the shooting competitions at London 2012 a huge success has been appointed as the competition manager for the event which is being hosted at Barry Buddon as part of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The venue was chosen as the Games are being held in Glasgow in two years time.
Peter Underhill, who was in charge of planning, organisation and management of the shooting competitions at the Olympics and Paralympics is set to take up his post next month.
He also filled the post of competition manager for the shooting events at the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002.
And Angus South MSP Graeme Dey welcomed the appointment of the experienced Mr Underhill.
He said: “This is a real coup for the Games shooting competition.
“Peter Underhill comes with a wealth of experience having been in charge of planning, organisation and management of the London Olympics and Paralympics.
“He also managed the England team to 19 medals at the 2006 Melbourne Games, so he comes with a great shooting pedigree and a knowledge of what’s required to deliver an event of this type.
“The 2014 Games will, I am confident, be remembered for all the right reasons and Angus will, I am certain, play its part in ensuring that.”
