The Carnoustie sports hub took a step closer to becoming reality this week with the submission of a planning application for pitches.
According to the application, permission is being sought for the development of two full size football/rugby pitches with land over for car access/parking, suds detention and landscaping at field opposite Carnoustie High School, Shanwell Road, by Angus Council.
Phil Hope, chair of Carnoustie Panmure, the umbrella organisation which encompasses the football teams taking part in the Carnoustie Community Sports Club, said: “We’re working with Angus Council and Carnoustie Rugby Club to develop two new pitches adjacent to Carnoustie High School. The land is due to be purchased in March/April and work will start once it is through the planning process.
“We currently have 350 footballers across our 18 teams and we are desperate for more pitches. We are disappointed there will only be the one new football pitch but it is a start.”
