ANGUS Council will publish the notice of election for the Carnoustie and District ward vacancy on Tuesday (December 21).
The by-election follows the retirement through ill-health of Councillor Ralph Palmer and the poll will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2011.
Mr Palmer represented the Scottish National Party on the council.
Candidates for the by-election can obtain nomination packs from the elections office, Angus Council, Angus House, Orchardbank, Forfar DD8 1AN, or can request them from the projects and elections officer Shona Cameron, firstname.lastname@example.org telephone 01307 476226.
Nominations for the contest close at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2011.
The last date to register to vote, request a new postal vote or to change or cancel an existing postal or proxy vote for this election is January 19, 2011.
The last date to apply for a new proxy vote, except for medical emergencies, for this election is January 26, 2011. The Electoral Registration office is closed between December 24 and January 5.

To date, several people have announced their intention to stand as candidates.
These include Brian Boyd, independent; Charles Goodall, Lib Dem; and Ron Thoms, Labour.
Both the SNP and Conservatives are proposing to contest the seat and will announce the name of their candidate soon.
