David Cheape wins Carnoustie by-election

Independent candidate David Cheape has won the Carnoustie and district by-election.

The result was announced just after 11am on Tuesday, December 6.

The turn out for the by-election was 30.2%, with 3246 ballot papers received from a total of 10,752 registered voters.

David Cheape received 1401 votes. The other results were

Mark McDonald (SNP), 1033

Beth Morrison (Scottish Liberal Democrats), 75

Derek Shaw (Scottish Conservatives) 568

Raymond Strachan (Scottish Labour) 141.

The successful candidate was elected at the fourth stage of reallocation.

Mr Cheape said: “I would like to pay tribute to the late Helen Oswald and will do my very best to represent Carnoustie and district in Helen’s sad absence.”
