THE NEW councillors for Carnoustie and District took a moment to share their thoughts with the Guide & Gazette following the election count.

SNP councillor Helen Oswald’s first concern was for fellow candidate Fiona Gibb. She said: “I’m disappointed that my running mate didn’t get in.”

First-timer Bill Bowles, Independent, was overjoyed. He said: “I’m delighted, absolutely delighted to have been elected by the people of Carnoustie and District.”

Brian Boyd, also Independent, had only been a councillor since early 2011, following the retiral of Ralph Palmer. He said: “It’s only been 14 months since the election which hasn’t been enough to tackle all the issues I wanted. Thankfully I have got another five years.”
