THE ELECTORAL Commission is urging people to make sure they are registered to vote in time for next month’s Scottish Parliament elections.

The election, which takes places on May 5 will also see voters take part in a UK wide referendum on whether there should be changes to the voting system used to elect MPs to Westminster.

But anybody wanting to vote has to register by today (Friday, April 15) to make sure their voice will be heard on polling day.

Andy O’Neill, head of the Electoral Commission in Scotland said: “If you’re not registered to vote by April 15, you can’t vote: it’s that simple.

“Go to our website, and print off and fill in a registration form to send to your local electoral registration office.”
