SCOTTISH National Party candidate Shona Robison set the tone for her party throughout Scotland when she was returned in the Dundee City East constituency with a majority of 10,679 over her nearest challenger, Labour’s Mohammed Asif. She also polled an amazing 64.2 per cent of the votes cast.
Returns were as follows: Shona Robison, SNP, 16,541; Mohammed Asif, Labour, 5,862; Brian Docherty, Conservative, 2,550; and Allan Petrie, Liberal Democrat, 800.
Ms Robison extended her thanks to the returning officer and his team for their professionalism during the election process.
She told the Guide & Gazette: “I am delighted to have the confidence of the electorate of Dundee City East as indicated by my increased majority.
“During my time as an MSP I have consciously taken the opinions of my constituents on board and I am honoured by their show of confidence in me.”
She concluded: “Everyone can rest assured that I will continue to serve them over the next five years as I have done for the last eight.”
