Stamps campaign

COMMEMORATIVE stamps remembering the Battle of Bannockburn could be released in 2014 thanks to two Angus parliamentarians.

Both Mike Weir MP and Graeme Dey MSP have approached Royal Mail to ask them to consider marking the 700th anniversary of the battle.

Responding to the SNP duo’s letter, Russell Hawkins from Royal Mail said: “Your suggestion is certainly an interesting one and I have included it on our list of potential subjects for 2014.”

Mr Dey added: “Royal Mail receives up to 2,000 suggestions every year for inclusion in their Special Stamps Programme so it is by no means certain the Battle of Bannockburn will be recognised.

“However, it is now at least under consideration and we will discover in early 2013 whether commemorative stamps will be issued to mark a major event in the shared history of Scotland and England.”
