A LARGE crowd attended the Carnoustie election hustings in the Royal British Legion Scotland’s Laurie Lounge last night (Thursday).
Local people were clearly keen to get their opinion of those standing for election to the Carnoustie and District ward on Angus Council.
And, as a result, questions for the candidates came thick and fast.
Fielding the questions were Bill Bowles, Independent; Brian Boyd, Independent; Adam Cormie, Conservative; Fiona Gibb, SNP; Helen Oswald, SNP; and Hamid Rasheed, Labour.
Unfortunately, the Lib Dem candidate, Lorraine Barthorpe, was unable to be present.
The editor of the Arbroath Herald, Montrose Review and Guide & Gazette, Brian Stormont, was chair for the evening.
Subjects covered included dog fouling and management, whether or not the candidates would join an Alliance if elected, what they would do to promote Carnoustie, how they would go around gaining funding for the town, coastal erosion on Tayside Street and parking charges at Monikie and Crombie Country Parks.
The evening was good natured, lively and interesting.
As the Royal British Legion Scotland had been kind enough to provide the venue free of charge, a collection was taken for the club at the end which realised over £30.
